Representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy, U. S. Naval Academy, West Point, U. S Coast Guard Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, and Congressman McClintock's office will be present information regarding admission requirements, etc.

Sierra College Parent Information Nights - Fall 2010

9/29, 10/20, 11/3, 11/17, 12/8 (6-7pm)- Room 212 (Learning Resource Center).  Learn about transfer agreements, degree and certificate programs, tuition, financial aid, etc.  You must RSVP by mailing outreach@sierracollege.edu.

The 49er Regional Occupational Program (ROP) classes offer students experience, skills, and knowledge in a number of career areas.  Woodcreek High students may choose from courses offered on Placer County high school campuses or at the ROP center in Auburn.  Applications will be accepted for Fire Science, Animal Vet, Careers with Children, Construction, Business Finance (taught at Woodcreek!), Fashion Merchandising, etc.  If you are a junior, stop by the career center for more information.

 Horatio Alger Scholarship Program - Deadline 10/30/10.  For seniors with financial need ($50k or less adjusted gross family income preferred), involvement in co-curricular and community activities, who have overcome adversity.  Go to www.horatioalger.org/scholarships.

Gates Millennium Scholar Program - Deadline: 1/10/11 - Must be African American, American Indian, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispancic American.  GPA of 3.3 or above required.  Leadership ability, community service considered.  Must meet Federal Pell Grant financial eligibility.  Go to www.gmsp.org to apply.

Coca-Cola Scholar Foundation, Inc - Deadline 10/31/2010 - A total of 250 merit-based scholarships are awarded, consisting of fifty $20,000 awards and two hundred $10,000 awards.  Selection is based on the applicant's character, personal merit, and background, and minimum GPA of 3.0.  Go to www.coca-colascholars.org.

Christermon Scholarship Program - Deadline: Feb 1, 2011 - For students whose parents or grandparents are proprieteors of, or employed by an individual or corporation holding a California liquor license (ex: Trader Joes, Walmart) Student must participate in Athletics or Performing Arts during the Jr. and Sr year.  Community service must be demonstrated in essay form.  Student must plan to attend an accredited four-year college.  Go to www. christermon.com/scholarship for more information.

N.R.O.T.C - Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps - It is recommended that you start the process for NROTC scholarships during the second semester of your junior year in high school.  The NROTC plays an important role in preparing young men and women for leadership and management positions in the Navy or Marine Corps.  For more information, go to www.navy.mil.  Minimum requirements: SAT 530 critical reading, 520 math.  ACT 22 composit.

Voice of Democracy Essay Contest - Deadline: November 1, 2010.  For students in  grades 9-12.  Theme of audio essay is "Does my Generation Have a Role in America's Future?"  Go to WWW.vfw.org, click on programs, VFW scholarship programs.

Dreamers Challenge - Deadline: October 15, 2010. Utilize your particular talents to illustrate how you would change the world, via essay, video, audio, or artwork.  Go to www.dreamerschallenge.org.

California Hall of Fame Dreamers Challenge - Deadline: October 15, 2010.  Students are required to submit an essay, video, audio recording, or artwork that explains how they will change the world.  One $5,000 winner in Northern California.  Go to DreamersChallenge.org.

U.S. Army R.O.T.C. - Deadline: Jan 10, 2010.  ARMY ROTC, offered at UC Davis, Sac State, and University of San Francisco campuses.  Applications should be started in the junior year of high school.  Gives students leadership training at the end of college.  Students will be fully qualified to become commissioned officers in the U.S. Army.  Go to www.armyrotc.com.

AES Engineering - Deadline: October 8, 2010.  Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words.  Go to ww.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm for details.

 

Veteran Dependent College Fee Waiver Program

The California Department of Veterans Affairs offers a program to college bound students that are dependent children of Service-Connected Disabled Veterans.  This program can be applied to all Universities of California, California State Universities, and state funded Community Colleges.  Students must complete a fee waiver application, have proof of a relationship between a dependent child and the veteran (birth cert, etc), anda copy of the Veterans disables rating letter.  For more information visit www.cacvso.com or www.cdva.ca.gov.

California Chafee Grant Program - For students who are in foster care and have been since their 16th birthday.  Go to www.chafee.csac.ca.gov.
