...will play in the semi-final round, the boys' team at Arco Arena, the girls' team at University of the Pacific in Stockton.

The girls' game will be Wednesday, 5:30 pm at the arena at UOP (directions in the link).  The girls are seeded 5th and play the #1 seed in the bracket, St. Francis.  Tickets for adults are $12, $6 for students and $5 for parking.

The boys' game will be Thursday, 7:30pm at Arco Arena (directions in the link).  They are the #2 seed and play the #6 seed, Rocklin.  Tickets for adults $17, students are $8, and parking is $12.

If they win, they move on to the final game.  The girls would play on Saturday at 1:00 at Arco Arena.  The boys would play on Saturday at 4:30, also at Arco.

ASB is organizing a rooter bus for the Thursday boys' game:

Normally, students would pay $8 for their tickets and $12 to park, but we are offering their ticket + a ride to the game on the rooter bus for $10!  Students must sign up in the quad (or cafeteria if it is raining) Tuesday or Wednesday during lunch if they would like a ride.  We cannot sell tickets after school either day, so students will need to remember their money and their id card AT LUNCH to get a seat!

Unfortunately, we cannot offer the same deal to adults.  With $17 adult ticket pricing, this bus is strictly for students.

This last weekend Peter Santos competed at the California State Wrestling Championships in Bakersfield Ca. with the following results...

On the first day his first match was against a guy who took 2nd in the Southern Section. He wrestled well but lost 6-3. In his next match he wrestled a guy who had beaten him a week earlier 8-5. This time Peter wrestled great and beat him 8-1 and dominated the match from start to finish. In his third match he came from 5 points down (8-5) to win in the last round 12-8. His fourth match of the day he lost 2-0.

This second loss ended his season with a state meet record of 2-2. This is a fantastic accomplishment and far and away better than ANY other Freshmen wrestler at our school.

Peter represented Woodcreek very well.

His overall record this year was. 46-13 all at the varsity level. This is a school record for wins by a freshmen, a school best for placement at Masters and state performance. He has a bright future in wrestling.

196 viewsFootball Earns Second Straight Playoff Bid (11/16/2009)

In a season that started slow, the Timberwolf Football team rebounded to earn a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Division II Playoffs for the second straight year as the number thirteen seed.  They will play at fourth seeded Folsom on Friday night at 7pm.

The Timberwolves played what was arguably the toughest schedule in the Sac-Joaquin Section this year, taking on teams with a combined record of 72-28. Opponents Rocklin and Inderkum will enter the playoffs with perfect 10-0 records, while Woodcreek is the only blemish on 9-1 Del Campo’s schedule.

Validating the argument that it is the toughest league in the section, the Sierra Foothill League earned four spots in this year’s playoffs with Rocklin at the number two seed, Granite Bay at five, Del Oro at eight, and Woodcreek at thirteen.

With a win on Friday, the Timberwolves would head to the winner of the Sacramento vs. Granite Bay game on November 20th.

Tickets may be purchased at the game.  Adults are $9 and Student admission is $5.  For complete playoff brackets and directions to Folsom High School, visit the Sac-Joaquin Section website at www.cifsjs.org.

The Woodcreek Girls team placed 8th in the Championship division of the Clovis Invitational Cross Country Meet, getting beat only by five Division I State ranked teams and two Division II State ranked teams.  The girls had a team average of 19:20 on the course WHICH IS THE BEST EVER by a girl’s team at Woodcreek.  They were the tenth best team of the day with over 150 teams participating at the State Meet course.  Courtney Crosta broke a school course record with a 12th place 18:26.  Other team members were Stephanie Romo (28th 18:59), Sami Gomez (38th 19:18), Nicole Krsulic (20:00), Ciarra Donnelly (20:01), Brooke O'Brien (20:50 and Ashley DeVriend (20:51).  Courtney had the seventeenth fastest time of the day out of 1,165 runners.

The boys were 8th in the Division II race, and for a young team continue to improve.  Tyler Raposa was fifth with a time of 16:13 and moves onto the top 7 all time list for Woodcreek sharing the spot with State Champion, Matt Johnsrud.  The bright spot of the day included Woodcreek’s three sophomore boys score 2-3-4.  Hunter Tyler ran a 16:55 (29th), Brandon Biando a 17:22 (61st) and Austin Mason (74th 17:37) were the 3-4 guys.  The 5-6 guys were juniors, Angelo Ciaraglia (17:53) and Karl Schmidt (17:55).  Gurp Mann who was down with the flu was the 7th guy in 18:01.

177 viewsCross Country Takes a Share of Sierra Foothill League Title (10/12/2009)

The Woodcreek Girls Cross Country team has a three win advantage over both Del Oro and Granite Bay going into the Sierra Foothill League Championships.  The boys pulled off a 6 point win over Rocklin for a share of first place in the league.

Courtney Crosta ran a school course record time of 18:49 for a 3rd place finish on the challenging 5k, with Stephanie Romo in 5th at 19:30, Sami Gomez in 6th 19:33, Nicole Krsulic in 10th 20:16 and Ciara Donnelly pulling off the crucial 5th spot in 15th with a PR time of 20:54.  Jen Romo and Brooke O'Brien rounded out the top 7.  Ashley DeVriend, a top 5 runner was out with the flu.

Tyler Raposa narrowly missed first place with a 5k finish time of 16:44.  Rocklin had the Timberwolves beat with their first three guys in before Woodcreek’s second runner, but the Timberwolves had their complete team finish back to back to push the Rocklin's 4th and 5th guys behind to 19th and 23rd place, making it the most exciting race of the day!  In 11th place, Gurp Mann ran a 17:40, in 12th was Karl Schmidt, Angelo Ciaraglia came in 13th,  Brandon Biando 14th, Hunter Tyler 15th , and Austin Mason came in 18th.

Now the key is to keep the Timberwolves all healthy and free of injuries until the championships on the October 30th. The girls can finish second at this meet and retain the title, but the boys have to beat Rocklin to win a banner.

Daniel Coulter, Hernon Oviedo and Justin Clark all had outstanding races in the F/S boys division and Jessica Bowen ran outstanding for the F/S girls.

1 viewsGirls Golf Sets Low Mark (9/30/2009)

WHS Girls Golf recently set the school record for lowest team total at Sierra Pines with a 219 (previously 221). This resulted in a victory over Rocklin, who beat us at their home course (Whitney Oaks) in the first round. The Girls Golf teams current record is 5-5 overall and 2-5 in SFL competition. This year the SFL is one of the strongest and most competitive Girls Golf leagues in the Sac area, with 6 teams capable of shooting below 220 on any given match. Del Oro currently leads with a 6-1 record. The first 18-hole League match Monday Oct. 5th should be a major factor in determining how the League will turn out. Woodcreek's top player, Dana Vasko, is currently not only the team's top scorer, but one of the top 10 players in the entire League. Woodcreek's #5 Jessica Roberts and #6 Tiffanie Harada have been a great surprise, both breaking 50 routinely and have shot as low as 44. This is very good for a #5 and #6 player, and has kept Woodcreek close in every match.

0 viewsFreshman Beat Bear River (9/30/2009)

The Freshman won a hard fought game @ Bear River last week to improve their record 2-1. The young men are learning some valuable lessons about consistnecy and mental toughness. Tommy Torres lead the defense in tackles and Steven Nogosek had two interceptions, one returned for a TD. Joey Dirkes had a 65 yard TD run after a nice pass by Blake Robinson. The OL and DL are getting better each week.

The Coaches and the players are looking forward to a tough Del Campo team this Thursday before the Homecomming Bon Fire.

Come on out and support the team!

0 viewsCross Country Runs Past Competition (9/30/2009)

Continuing their run as one of the most dominant teams in the Sac-Joaquin section, the Woodcreek Cross Country team is gaining ground on the top teams in the state.

The girl’s team is currently ranked first in the section and fifth in the state.  Led by returning all-league SFL and SJS Division II Section leaders are Courtney Crosta and Stephanie Romo with sophomore Sami Gomez and senior Nicole Krsulic stepping into the top mix this year helping to solidify an already strong team. Ashley DeVriend, Jennifer Romo and Ciara Donnelly round out the top 7. The team is working toward a third consecutive Sierra Foothill League banner and second Division II section championship.  The girls took 2nd this season at the Nevada Twilight meet and then came back with a 1st place finish at the Rocklin, Trojan and League meets.  Last weekend at the prestigious Stanford Invite they placed 9th in the championship seeded race and would have won the DII girls division.

The boy’s team is currently ranked fifth in the section and is running to defend their fourth consecutive league banner.  Tyler Raposa is currently leading the league winning the first league meet with a time of 16:32.  The boys narrowly missed winning the first league meet with a close second to Rocklin.  Sophomore Hunter Tyler and senior Gurp Mann are scoring 2-3 for the team with Brandon Biando, Angelo Ciaraglia, Karl Schmidt and Andy Smith trading spots to round out the rest of the top 7.  The boys took 3rd at the Nevada Twilight invite, 4th at the Rocklin invite, 2nd at the League meet, 2nd at the Trojan invite narrowly losing to Oakridge. The Timberwolves placed an impressive 5th place at the Stanford invite in the DII boy’s division race.

The Timberwolves compete next at the second Sierra Foothill League Meet this Wednesday at Nevada Union High School.

1 viewsCross Country doing GREAT (9/22/2009)

Last Wednesday the Timberwolf Cross Country Team had their first Sierra Foothill League meet. The athletes all ran and performed well in spite of the heat. The V girls won the meet and are currently 6-0 in league after the first round. The V boys narrowly lost by 6 to Rocklin to finish in second, their record stands at 5-1 in league.

The V girls are off to a fantastic start, taking 2nd out of 25 teams at the Nevada Twilight, winning the Rocklin Invite, and taking an impressive 1st place at the Trojan Invite beating Oakridge the #1 team in section.

The V boys have been in the top 5 at all the meets and took second at the Trojan Invite behind section leader Oakridge. The impressive thing about the boys is that there are currently 10 guys battling for the top 7 spots and only 2 are seniors. We have 5 sophomores and 1 freshman boy in the top 7 mix this season!!

Go Timberwolves!
