Woodcreek High School tracks the following data to measure school performance and provides the PDF's below to assist parents and other community members in following WHS's progress.
Woodcreek High School has an incredibly strong VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) department. Several teachers lead an excellent Guitar, Band, Musical Theater, Drama, Drumline and Theater Tech program. The students of VAPA at WHS are fast learners and multi-talented to meet the hard standards of the programs they're in.
From guitar shows to piano recitals; from our band and drumline on tour all over California to just the high school play in the fall, everything is done with hours of sacrifice of practice by the students involved.
For this year, we'll have loads of shows and performances for us to showcase the creative talent of our student body. Our band is going on tour this year, which means we'll be all over the state. Be sure to check back regularly for information on shows dates and times!
Our VAPA would be nothing without the teachers and mentors for all the students. Here's a list of who does what.
Drama & Theater Tech - Mr. Fearon
Band & Drumline - Mr. North
Choir & Musical Theater - Mrs. Mars
Guitar - Mr. Harmon
Dance - Mrs. Viduya
A recent development at Woodcreek High School is the creation of an Academic Booster Club. We are raising funds for Advanced Placement test scholarships, SAT and or ACT test prep materials, PSAT test scholarships, National Honor Society awards, and any other academic pursuit where our students may need assistance. These programs do not have the resources or structures to generate revenue. WHS raises a significant amount of money for athletics and performing arts and we believe our academic programs deserve similar support. The kinds of items we assist students with are Advanced Placement test scholarships, SAT and or ACT test prep materials, PSAT test scholarships, National Honor Society awards, and any other academic focused pursuit where our students may need assistance.
Our School Site Council will appropriate and monitor the spending of any money raised for this area of the school. (School Site Council is a representative body that consists of parents, students and staff.) With the current state budget situation we'd regret losing any momentum in this area of the school and believe we can maintain our gains in the last two years with your support. Thank you so much for your support of Woodcreek High School.
Although the district and the general site budgets pay for all the base academic needs at the school there are needs that go beyond what the school is fiscally and legally able to do. The last two years Woodcreek has seen a tremendous culture change in how academic excellence is perceived by our students. For example, our Advanced Placement program has grown from an enrollment of approximately 400 students to an enrollment of 800 students.
We're asking for any donation you can spare, five dollars to fifty dollars, all is welcome. Please make checks payable to "Woodcreek High School Boosters - Academics". You can submit your donation at our front desk or to our Site Council representatives.
Recently, the AP Environmental Science class took part an project where they were assigned to keep all of their non-perishable trash articles for one week. (It had to be non-perishable to eliminate the risk of disease and bacteria.) At the end of the 7 days, the trash was separated into aluminum, paper, plastic, glass, and miscellaneous. The goal was to prove that Americans generate 4.4 pounds of trash each day. The class of 40 students reached 80 pounds. (This was because only non-perishable trash was collected.) When the trash was separated into the five categories, they got a visual of which category was the largest. Like usual, paper won. However, over the last five years, plastic has been growing and may soon rival paper. Congratulations to the AP Environmental Science class for completing their project!
